Jim Breese

Founder & Editor-in-Chief

I started my first educational content company over 15 years ago. After spending my career building products that help people learn, I founded FluentFlash to bring together everything I've learned about effective study tools with the latest advances in spaced repetition research. Every piece of content on this site reflects the standards I've developed over two decades in EdTech.

Our Expert Network

FluentFlash's content is developed with a network of subject-matter experts spanning education, linguistics, test preparation, and professional development. Our contributors include:

  • Language educators — Native speakers and certified language instructors who verify vocabulary, pronunciation guides, and cultural context for each of our 42 supported languages
  • Certified test prep specialists — Professionals with direct experience in standardized test preparation for GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, NCLEX, SAT, GRE, and other major exams
  • University lecturers and curriculum designers — Academics who ensure our subject flashcards align with current curricula in nursing, medical sciences, law, business, and STEM fields
  • Professional certification holders — AWS, Azure, CompTIA, CPA, CFA, and PMP certified professionals who review our IT and business certification content

How We Create Content

Every page on FluentFlash follows a rigorous editorial process:

  1. Research — We analyze what students actually need by studying exam syllabi, university curricula, official language standards (CEFR, JLPT, HSK), and professional certification requirements. We identify gaps where existing resources fall short.
  2. Drafting — Content is written to be comprehensive yet accessible. We prioritize practical study value — definitions, examples, mnemonics, and practice questions — over filler text.
  3. Expert review — Subject-matter experts review content for factual accuracy, completeness, and pedagogical effectiveness. Language content is verified by native speakers. Exam content is checked against the latest official test specifications.
  4. Source verification — Every page cites authoritative external sources. We only reference official examination bodies, accredited educational institutions, peer-reviewed research, and recognized professional organizations.
  5. Publication — Content goes through final quality checks before being published with proper metadata, structured data, and internal cross-links to related study materials.

Our Source Standards

We hold ourselves to strict sourcing requirements. Every content page links to authoritative external references, and we only cite:

  • Official examination bodies (GMAC, AAMC, College Board, NCSBN, ETS)
  • Accredited universities and their open educational resources
  • Government education agencies (.gov, .edu domains)
  • Established professional organizations (AMA, IEEE, APA, NCTM)
  • Peer-reviewed educational research
  • Official language authorities (RAE, Goethe-Institut, Alliance Française, JLPT)

Keeping Content Current

Educational content has a shelf life. Exam formats change, curricula evolve, and new research emerges. We commit to:

  • Regular reviews — All exam prep content is reviewed when official test specifications are updated. Language content is refreshed annually.
  • Freshness dates — Every page displays when it was last reviewed so you know how current the information is.
  • Community feedback — If you spot an error or outdated information, we want to know. Reach us at [email protected] and we'll investigate and correct it promptly.

Our Commitment

After 15 years in educational content, I believe the best study resources are accurate, practical, and freely accessible. FluentFlash exists to give every student — regardless of budget — access to the same quality of study materials that premium prep courses charge hundreds of dollars for.

Every page is designed to be the most useful, most complete resource available for its topic. If we can't meet that bar, we'd rather not publish it at all.
