AI Card Generation

AI Card Generation

FluentFlash's AI creates high-quality flashcards and study materials from any content. Here's how it works.

How It Works

  • You provide content — A topic, notes, PDF, image, or URL
  • AI analyzes it — Determines the subject, depth, and optimal card strategy
  • Content streams in — Watch as cards or study materials appear in real-time
  • You review & edit — Include/exclude cards, edit content, regenerate individual cards
  • Save to your deck — Only the cards you want are added

  • Output Types

Choose what to generate from your source material:

  • Flashcards — The default. Standard Q&A, cloze, and reversed cards
  • Study Guide (Plus) — Structured written guide with sections, key concepts, and summaries (800-2000 words)
  • Cheat Sheet (Plus) — Dense one-page reference for quick review
  • Formula Sheet (Plus) — LaTeX formulas with variable definitions (ideal for math and science)
  • Custom (Plus) — Describe your own output format and let the AI follow your instructions

  • After saving flashcards, a study guide and cheat sheet are auto-generated in the background. You can find them in the "Study Materials" section on your deck page with PDF and DOCX download buttons.

    Input Methods

    Topic (Free)

Type what you want to learn. Examples:

  • "Photosynthesis main steps"
  • "Spanish numbers 1-100"
  • "JavaScript closures and scope"

  • Notes (Free)

Paste your lecture notes, textbook content, or any text. The AI extracts key facts and creates cards.

    PDF (Plus)

Upload a PDF document — textbooks, research papers, slide decks. The AI reads the text and generates cards.

    Word Document (Plus)

Upload .docx files from Word, Google Docs, etc.

    Image (Plus)

Take a photo of your notes, textbook page, or whiteboard. The AI uses vision to read and generate cards.

    YouTube (Plus)

Paste a YouTube URL. The AI extracts the video transcript and generates cards from it. Works with any video that has captions/subtitles.

    Card Count Presets

Before generating, choose how many cards you want:

  • Quick (10-15) — Main concepts only
  • Thorough (25-40) — Concepts + key details
  • Deep Dive (50-100) — Comprehensive coverage

  • Clarifying Questions

For some topics, the AI may ask 1-3 quick questions to improve results:

  • Depth: Overview vs. Standard vs. Comprehensive
  • Level: Middle school vs. College vs. Graduate
  • Coverage: Just your notes vs. Fill gaps vs. Add broader context

  • Sticky Save Bar & Auto-Save

  • A sticky save bar at the bottom of the screen shows the card count and a save button — always visible so you never have to scroll past 50-100 cards to find it
  • Press Cmd+S (or Ctrl+S) to save via keyboard shortcut
  • Draft auto-save: Your generated cards are automatically saved to your browser every 500ms. If you accidentally close the tab, a restore banner appears on reload: "You have N unsaved cards from a previous session" with Restore and Discard buttons
  • Unsaved changes protection: A browser warning prompts you before navigating away if you have unsaved generated cards or card edits

  • Post-Generation Actions

After cards are generated, you can:

  • Include/Exclude — Toggle cards on/off with the checkmark
  • Edit — Click the pencil icon to modify front/back text
  • Regenerate — Get a different version of a specific card
  • Simplify/Harder — Adjust individual card difficulty
  • Split — Break a complex card into 2 simpler ones
  • Generate More — Add 10 more cards from the same source
  • Bulk Actions — Select multiple cards for batch include/exclude/delete
